Draft Profile: Bio
Hosea Wheeler played on the defensive line and at tight end at Franklin High School in Elk Grove, California, and was unranked with no major offers. He began at Sacramento City College in 2021, making 24 tackles in nine games.Wheeler moved to Western Kentucky and redshirted in 2022. He started 11 games in 2023, earning second-team All-Conference USA honors, then started 14 games in 2024 and was named first-team all-conference. He transferred to Indiana for 2025, making five starts and 31 tackles for the national champions.
Wheeler joined Baylor in January 2026 for a sixth season. He is playing under a temporary injunction granted on 11 August over whether his junior college year counts against his eligibility, and a trial was expected around mid-November. He had a sack among four tackles in the loss to TCU on 18 October and three more when Baylor won 41-9 at UCF.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Sacked the quarterback in the October game against TCU
- Steady run defender with 13 stops this season
- Earned All-Conference USA honors twice during his Western Kentucky career
- Played a role on Indiana's national championship team in 2025
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Eligibility is under a court injunction with a trial pending
- Lacks the quickness to collapse the pocket on his own
- Only six pressures in eight games this season
- Missed two tackles against Louisiana Tech in September
- Sixth-year senior, so he will be among the oldest rookies
Scouting Report: Summary
Wheeler is a tough, experienced interior lineman whose long road began in junior college. He is stout against blockers and made plays for Indiana's national champions, and he had a sack against TCU this season. However, he does not generate much pressure, with six this season, and he lacks quickness off the ball. His eligibility is also tied up in court, and he will be an older rookie.
Overall, Wheeler is a dependable rotational run defender with a limited ceiling. He projects as a priority free agent who will need to win a job on early downs.
