Ponton is a true skyscraper at right tackle, and Texas Tech trusted him with all fourteen games as a redshirt freshman on a team that played deep into the postseason. He answered with Freshman All-America honors and a run game that leads his profile; the Houston tape, ninety-plus snaps of moving bodies in a road grind, is the rep sheet to pull first. He blocks through the whistle, climbs with intent to finish, and showed real pass-protection stretches against Oklahoma State and BYU.
