After high school, Pearce Jr. joined Tennessee after being heavily recruited.In 2022 as a freshman Pearce Jr. saw action in 6 games and played a total of 61 snaps for the Volunteers. He recorded just 3 tackles, one assist, while adding 5 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 6 total pressures, which included 4 QB hurries, no QB hits, and 2 sacks on the season.
As a sophomore for the Volunteers in 2023 Pearce Jr. played in 13 games and took part in 462 snaps for the Volunteers. He recorded 13 tackles, 7 assists, while adding 23 stops. Scouting Report: Strengths
- Plays with leverage at the point of attack whether inside or outside. Keeps eyes in the backfield when inside; moves linemen to either side with strong hands.
- As a pass rusher, Pearce shows quickness off the line and has the fluid athleticism and flexibility to bend the edge.
- Flashes nimble feet to chase running backs and mobile quarterbacks to the sideline when lined up at end. Spins off blocks to get back into the play.
- Pearce has a good motor and will chase down plays in pursuit.
- His spin move is already NFL-caliber, and he displays a very good motor.
- Fast in a straight line. Excellent wide and .bull rushes when he's first off the snap.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Pearce remains a bit raw, as Pearce is inconsistent with his hand use and lacks violence in his hands
- Pearce has little in the way of take-on skills, lacking the ability to drop anchor and set the edge and unable to move through traffic in pursuit.
- While he moves well laterally, he doesn’t always get there in pursuit.
