Draft Profile: Bio
Kyron Drones from Shadow Creek High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Drones opted to join Baylor. In 2022 as a freshman Drones saw action in just 3 games for the Bears as he threw for just 219 yards on 22 attempts with a completion percent of 63.6 for an average of 10.0 yards per pass, with just one TD, while taking no sacks, and an excellent QB rating of 92.8.
After the season Drones transferred to Virginia Tech where as a sophomore he played in 12 games as he passed for 1989 yards on 265 attempts with a completion percent of 57.4 for an average of 7.5 yards per pass, with 15 TDs, while also taking 21 sacks, and putting up an excellent QB rating of 95.3. He made 128 runs for a total of 781 yards at an average of 6.1 per rush.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Good zip and ball placement on the quick slant. Good touch down the seam and on post-corner, flag routes to attack the defense vertically and horizontally.
- Drones has a compact release and keeps his eyes up in the pocket. Drones has enough speed and athleticism to threaten with his legs when plays break down.
- Sprays the ball anywhere on the field, especially when given a pocket from which to deliver. Will step up into pocket while looking downfield, reset his feet and deliver.
- Athletic quarterback who is a threat to leave the pocket and gain positive yardage at any time. Possesses very good vision balance, elusiveness and deceptive speed and power as a runner.
- Generally accurate on intermediate and short throws; flashes anticipation and placement on intermediate outs and the ability to lead receivers on deeper throws.
- Sticks throws into tight windows over the middle, throwing to spot on slant or between zone defenders before the receiver is open.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Drones often holds the ball too long. While Drones keeps his eyes up while moving, his mechanics get increasingly sloppy once he’s pushed off his spot.
- Drones has a bad habit of fading and throwing off his back foot when the pocket gets muddled, and he is too often all arm when throwing on the move, sacrificing accuracy.
- Too often fails to give receivers a chance to make a play after the catch. High completion percentage padded by many quick screens.

The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
