Otting grew up in Topeka, Kansas, where he was a standout two-way lineman at Hayden Catholic High School. He earned Kansas Sports Central Offensive Lineman of the Year honors in 2022 after leading Hayden to a 10-2 record and a deep playoff run. A multi-sport athlete, he qualified for the Kansas 4A state meet in the shotput and competed regionally in the discus and javelin, while also averaging 14 points and seven rebounds per game on the basketball court as a junior.Otting signed with Notre Dame as a four-star recruit per 247 Sports and was ranked the 29th offensive lineman nationally in his class. He redshirted in 2023 as part of a Joe Moore Award semifinalist offensive line unit, then saw limited action across seven games as a freshman in 2024, logging snaps primarily in blowout situations.
