Josh Hoover threw for 9,953 yards and 108 touchdowns across three seasons at Rockwall-Heath High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. His senior year produced 3,252 yards and 40 touchdowns, earning him the 2021 Landry Award as the top high school football player in North Texas. Recruiting services rated him a three-star prospect, and he initially committed to Indiana before TCU's Sonny Dykes flipped him to Fort Worth. His father, Alex Hoover, played linebacker at Colorado State and spent time in the NFL.After redshirting in 2022, Hoover threw for 439 yards and four touchdowns against BYU in his first career start in 2023, becoming the first Power Five quarterback since 2019 to throw for 400 yards and four scores in his debut. As a sophomore in 2024, he started all 13 games and shattered Trevone Boykin's school record with 3,949 passing yards while throwing 27 touchdowns, earning New Mexico Bowl Offensive MVP and Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors.
