Draft Profile: Bio
Savion Byrd from Duncanville High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Byrd opted to join Oklahoma.

In 2021 as a freshman Byrd saw action in just one game and played a total of 15 snaps for the Sooners. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing sparingly.

As a sophomore in 2022 he played in 8 games and a total of 59 snaps. He conceded no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing at left guard.

In 2023 as a junior Byrd saw action in 8 games and totaled 181 snaps. He gave up just 2 QB hurries, no QB hits, and one sack while playing the majority of his snaps at left guard, and the rest at right guard.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • In the run game, Byrd comes off the snap quickly and is excellent with hand placement. Byrd understands angles, and he displays impressive footwork in moving to the second level, usually getting in position to deliver blocks.
  • Has fluid body control with loose hips. Physical and tough with good effort in the run game. Plays with a finishing attitude with an aggressive, nasty temperament.
  • Anchors against larger defenders in the middle; resets hands to maintain distance. Athletic enough to help on nose tackle then pick up twist or late blitzer. Mirrors quick interior rushers. Looks to help the center when uncovered.
  • He does a nice job working with teammates to build the pocket, anchoring against bull rushers and displaying good awareness against stunts and twists.
  • Plays with natural leverage and has the strength to anchor against the bull rush. Byrd also packs a violent initial punch that can stand up pass rushers.
  • Quick feet to get inside of defensive tackles to wall off inside and reach linebackers at the second level.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Not physically imposing and has average overall strength. Upper body gets over his feet too often and Byrd easily loses his balance.
  • Loses leverage battles and plays with high pad level. Can be late off the snap.
  • Byrd too often falls offblocks and is more of a wall-off blocker than a mauler, even at the second level

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
