Bryce Carter from Life Christian Academy High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Carter joined Virginia after being heavily recruited.In 2021 as a freshman Carter saw action in just one game and played a total of 4 snaps for the Cavaliers. He recorded no tackles, no assists, while adding no stops.
As a sophomore for the Cavaliers in 2022 Carter played in 4 games and took part in 27 snaps for the Cavaliers. He recorded just one tackle, one assist, while adding no stops.
In 2023 as a junior Carter played in 7 games and contributed on 150 snaps. He recorded just 6 tackles, one assist while making 7 stops. As a pass rusher, he produced 3 total pressures, which included one QB hurry, no QB hits, and 2 sacks on the year.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Excellent hustle-and-chase tackler. Good closing speed with change of direction to corral mobile quarterbacks.
- Carter has an excellent motor and shows the stamina to last deep into the fourth quarter.
- His spin move is already NFL-caliber, and Carter displays a very good motor.
- Challenges inside with quickness and strong hands. Run-and-chase defender who can leave a mark.
- He’s a high-effort pass rusher who shows good initial quickness and the ability to beat blockers to the inside.
- Carter can also win going speed-to-power, with the leg drive to push blockers back.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Carter remains a bit raw, as Carter is inconsistent with his hand use and lacks violence in his hands
- Not a quick-twitch player. Won't consistently threaten the edge. Few explosive qualities and lacks great initial burst or overall range for the position.
- Average size, strength and lacks the bulk in his upper and lower body to hold up on the line. Not a sudden athlete.
