Scouting Report: Strengths
- Johnson shows good vision and good explosion upfield once Johnson plants his foot. He has lateral movement skills and enough speed to threaten big plays. He’s excellent in the passing game, capable of flexing out as a receiver and creating mismatches against linebackers, and he’s a solid back in the screen game.
- He’s decisive once he locates a hole and gets through quickly. His ability to accelerate and his good top-end speed allow him to outrun angles, and he has the quickness and lateral agility to make defenders miss in space.
- He has the straight-line speed to outrun angles, and his flexibility allows him to turn the corner on the perimeter and stay near top speed as he does; he’s especially effective on fly sweeps.
- His vision is outstanding, and he has an innate understanding of when to go and when to sit back and wait for blocks to develop. He thrives as a one-cut back
- An instinctive runner, he has a knack for setting up defenders and making people miss in space. He’s at his best in space and on the perimeter, where he shows the balance and acceleration, plus pure speed, to make a move and then take off.
- Johnson moves at a different speed than most of the players on the field. His initial burst and acceleration once the ball is in his hands are special.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Johnson really isn’t a guy who will create a lot of separation.
- Johnson seems comfortable in traffic to the point where Johnson doesn’t make the effort to create separation.
- He’s shaky in pass protection, capable of making the correct reads but too reliant on cut blocks. When he does stay on his feet, he too often ducks his head and lunges.
