Draft Profile: Bio
After high school, Vele opted to join Utah.In 2019 as a freshman Vele saw action in 4 games for the Utes as he made no receptions for no yards for an average of 0.0 yards per reception, with no TDs, and just QB rating when targeted of 39.6.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played 5 games and had just 2 catches for 12 yards for an average of 6.0 yards per catch, with no TDs, and just QB rating when targeted of 56.3.
As a junior in 2021 he played 14 games and hauled in 23 catches for 389 yards for an average of 16.9 yards per catch, with one TD, and QB rating when targeted of 78.8.
As a senior in 2022 he played 13 games and had 50 catches for 595 yards for an average of 11.9 yards per catch, 5 TDs, and an excellent QB rating when targeted of 103.5.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Vele fights his way off the line of scrimmage against press coverage, showing quick, violent hands and good balance.
- Physical player able to get off press coverage to release up the sideline or position himself inside the cornerback on slants and crossing routes.
- Balanced, savvy route runner with top field awareness, setting up and selling routes beautifully.
- Has the strong hands any NFL wide receiver coach and quarterback would covet. Tracks the deep ball over either shoulder and brings in passes fluidly without breaking stride downfield.
- Does not have exceptional straight-line speed but takes advantage of open seams when his quarterback is on target.
- Has a tall frame and long arms, plus strong hands, giving him a huge catch radius.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Vele also had problems with drops when coming back to the action. He has some issues against press coverage, sometimes spending too much time hand fighting at the line of scrimmage.
- Vele also lacks suddenness as a route runner, and that is a potential issue at the next level.
- Because his top-end speed is good-not-great, Vele doesn’t warrant safety help over the top.
