Draft Profile: Bio
JJ Pegues from Oxford High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Pegues joined Auburn after being heavily recruited.

In 2021 as a freshman Pegues saw action in 13 games and played a total of 204 snaps for the Tigers. He recorded 15 tackles, 2 assists, while adding 11 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 4 total pressures, which included 4 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks on the season.

After season's end Pegues transferred to Ole Miss where as a sophomore for the Rebels in 2022 Pegues played 11 games and took part in 395 snaps for the Rebels. He recorded 16 tackles, 4 assists, while adding 15 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 26 total pressures, and 18 QB hurries, 5 QB hits, and 3 sacks during the year.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • A technician with a high motor, Pegues has a variety of moves and displays exceptionally good hand use. Pegues shows a strong finishing burst and has the power to hold at the point of attack as a run defender.
  • Can make the impressive chest-to-chest bear hug tackle in the hole due to his ability to wreak havoc in the backfield.
  • Combines excellent power with initial quickness, but one of his best attributes are his violent hands, which he uses with impressive precision.
  • He’s a high-effort pass rusher who shows good initial quickness and the ability to beat blockers to the inside.
  • Quick footed with rare burst for his size. Very good quickness off the snap to split defenders and penetrate the pocket.
  • Pegues has a wide base and a low center of gravity to hold his ground, as well as the upper-body strength to shed blockers.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Good strength, though his marginal arm length limits his ability to grab hold of ballcarriers as they run by.
  • Inconsistent in his ability to separate from blocks, however, making him more of a nuisance than a snap-to-snap terror.
  • Isn't able to consistently shed blocks and makes plays in the hole.
