Draft Profile: Bio
Martin burst onto the national scene in 2023, leading the Big 12 in tackles, solo tackles, and tackles per game. The Oklahoma State product's 140 total tackles were the most by any Cowboy since 1984 and the most by a Big 12 player since 2018. His 83 solo tackles topped the conference and ranked third among all FBS players.A Texarkana, Texas native, Martin excelled on both sides of the ball in high school, earning offers to play running back and linebacker. After redshirting in 2021, he saw limited action in 2022 before exploding as a sophomore in 2023. Martin's breakout campaign earned him First Team All-Big 12 honors and fourth-team All-America recognition from Phil Steele.
Martin's rapid ascension is evident in his accolades. He was named a season captain by his teammates and garnered consideration for the Chuck Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, and Butkus Award. His 16.0 tackles for loss ranked 20th in the FBS, while his sack total placed him 21st nationally among linebackers.
Scouting Report: Strengths
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Undersized frame for an NFL MIKE, may struggle to stack-and-shed against pro-level OL
- Overaggressive pursuit angles at times, can run himself out of plays
- Limited sample size as a full-time starter, only one season of significant snaps
- May need time to adjust to more sophisticated NFL blocking schemes and route combinations
- Too ofteny relies too heavily on athleticism, needs to develop more patience in run fits
Scouting Report: Summary
A heat-seeking missile at the second level, Martin possesses the tools to be a three-down impact player in today's NFL. His elite short-area quickness and instincts allow him to excel in space, making him a prime fit for defenses that prioritize speed and versatility. While his frame raises questions about his ability to consistently take on blocks, Martin's play strength and tackling prowess suggest he can overcome size limitations.Scheme versatility is a calling card for Martin. He has the skill set to thrive as a WILL in a 4-3 or as an inside backer in a 3-4, with upside as a sub-package rusher. His coverage chops and range make him an ideal matchup weapon against spread offenses and mobile QBs. Martin's ability to contribute on special teams from day one will endear him to coaching staffs as he develops into a full-time defensive role.
Despite limited starting experience, Martin's production against top competition hints at a high ceiling. His instincts, athleticism, and playmaking ability should translate well to the next level. Teams looking for an impact defender capable of staying on the field for all three downs will find Martin an intriguing day two prospect with the potential to outplay his draft position.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
