Draft Profile: Bio
Sean Martin from Bluefield High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Martin joined West Virginia.

In 2020 as a freshman Martin saw action in just one game and played a total of 3 snaps for the Mountaineers. He recorded no tackles, no assists, while adding no stops.

As a sophomore for the Mountaineers in 2021 Martin played in 13 games and took part in 212 snaps for the Mountaineers. He recorded only 8 tackles, 8 assists, while adding 5 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 5 total pressures, and 5 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks during the year.

In 2022 as a junior Martin played in 12 games and contributed on 410 snaps. He recorded 20 tackles, 8 assists while making 21 stops. As a pass rusher, he produced 14 total pressures, which included 8 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and 4 sacks on the year.

In 2023 as a senior Martin logged playing time in 12 games and logged a total of 469 snaps for the Mountaineers. He also added 19 tackles, 3 assists, and 13 stops. As a pass rusher, he tallied 26 total pressures, which included 17 QB hurries, 7 QB hits, and 2 sacks on the season.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • As a pass rusher, Martin shows quickness off the line and has the fluid athleticism and flexibility to bend the edge.
  • Martin has an excellent feel for working off blockers and knowing how and when to counter as the play goes on.
  • His hand use is excellent; he’s strong in the upper body and consistently swats away blockers.
  • A savvy, versatile and instinctive edge rusher who did a little bit of everything, he was especially effective getting to the quarterback.
  • His spin move is already NFL-caliber, and he displays a very good motor.
  • He's not an elite pass rusher and projects as a left end in a 4-3 defense. If he layers on more muscle, he might fit in the 3-4. Size, strength and versatility should push him into the top 75 picks.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Lacks overpowering strength and can stick to blocks. Lacks explosive speed to bend and flatten off the corner with stiff hips and ankles. Not flexible or fluid.
  • Martin lacks the speed of a chase and- tackle guy. He lacks twitch as a pass rusher and lacks the feet and flexibility to threaten around the edge.
  • He struggles to shed blockers and doesn’t show ideal lateral movement skills. Martin also needs to make better use of his length and hands in the pass rush.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
