Draft Profile: Bio
Trey Wedig from Kettle Moraine High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Wedig opted to join Wisconsin. In 2021 as a freshman Wedig saw action in just 2 games and played a total of 30 snaps for the Badgers. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing at right guard.
As a sophomore in 2022 he played in 9 games and a total of 492 snaps. He conceded a solid 7 QB hurries, no QB hits, and 3 sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at tight tackle, and the rest at right guard.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- He’s especially light on his feet considering his size, a fluid mover who has natural balance as Wedig kick-slides and sets. Wedig has the long arms to ward off pass rushers and send them flying past the pocket.
- Shows excellent awareness when presented with stunts and blitzes, and he works well with teammates on combo blocks
- Showing some nastiness to his game, he will sustain blocks through the whistle, thriving when he’s in the phone booth.
- Exhibits good patience in pass protection, sitting back in his set rather than leaning and lunging.
- At his best mauling in the run game, playing with a nasty demeanor and consistently keeping it going through the whistle.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Susceptible to speed rushers. Has only average quickness off the snap and doesn't possess the acceleration or arm length to corral defenders once they cross his face.
- Flashes the ability to move his man with his hands, but is not yet consistent in this area.
- Often simply tries to push pass rushers past the pocket. Wedig can also look a bit hesitant when it comes to recognizing and reacting to twists, stunts and blitzes up front.
- Lacks ideal movement skills in the run game. He’ll get to the second level, but Wedig tends to lock on to a path toward his target and then struggles if he has to adjust.
