Jordan Ross was one of the most coveted edge rushers in the 2024 recruiting class, rated a five-star prospect by 247Sports and On3, and the consensus top edge rusher nationally. Out of Vestavia Hills High School in suburban Birmingham, Alabama, he put together a senior season of 72 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks while earning state and regional Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was also a productive basketball player, averaging 9.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as a junior.Ross signed with Tennessee and spent two seasons in Knoxville, appearing in 22 games without a start. As a true freshman in 2024, he earned Freshman All-SEC recognition and made an immediate special teams impact, blocking a punt and returning it 49 yards for a touchdown in his collegiate debut against Chattanooga. His sophomore year brought a larger defensive role: he finished 2025 with 23 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery across 249 defensive snaps.
Ross entered the transfer portal following the 2025 season and signed with LSU in January 2026, joining the Tigers' rebuilt defensive front with two years of eligibility remaining. He is expected to compete for a starting role immediately in Blake Baker's defense heading into 2026.

Ross is a rare athlete off the edge, a former five-star whose first-step speed threatens the corner before tackles can set their feet, and whose play in both phases was sharp even on a rotational role. He beat Arkansas for two sacks while forcing a fumble, stoned Alabama for three run stops in limited reps, and flashed the bend and length that made him a top-ten national recruit. When he is on the field, the traits jump off the tape.The catch is how little he played. His production is thin, two sacks behind a veteran rotation, and the snap count stayed low, so the body of evidence is small relative to the billing. At 245 pounds he is very light, gives way against power on early downs, and needs mass before he can hold up when offenses run at him. He is a traits-and-flashes prospect whose tape is more promise than proof.
The bet is on the athleticism and the pedigree, an ascending edge who should take off with a larger role and more weight. The frame and the thin production keep the grade honest, but the ceiling is a starting speed rusher and the arrow points up. With a move to a new program for a featured role, he is a Day 2 swing on upside worth taking.
