Jovaughn Gwyn from Harding University High High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Gwyn opted to join South Carolina.In 2018 as a freshman Gwyn saw action in just one game and played a total of 15 snaps for the Gamecocks. He allowed no QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks while playing sparingly.
As a sophomore in 2019 he played in 11 games and a total of 819 snaps. He conceded 6 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and one sack while playing at right guard.
In 2020 as a junior Gwyn saw action in 10 games and totaled 675 snaps. He gave up 9 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and one sack while playing at right guard.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Technician as a pass protector, playing with a wide base and very good balance. Gwyn has heavy hands, but more impressively, Gwyn is consistent with his kick slide and shows impressive lateral movement.
- Has an intriguing blend of size and quickness. He fires off the ball and shows good power at the point of attack, capable of generating movement up front.
- In the run game, he comes off the snap quickly and is excellent with hand placement. Gwyn understands angles, and he displays impressive footwork in moving to the second level, usually getting in position to deliver blocks.
- Showed impressive range and the ability to get out and land blocks on the move
- Has average height with a narrow base out of his stance. Needs to get stronger in his lower half to anchor at the point of attack.
- Dips shoulder and moves his feet to get outside leverage when needed. Strong and low coming out of his stance, effective in short-yardage situations.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- His size and athleticism are both limited. Gwyn is not a great blocker in space, often struggling with quickness on the second level, and Gwyn lacks the range to be used as a puller.
- Has only average measurable with limited arm length and no overpowering qualities.
- He’ll give effort, but doesn’t generate much power at the point of attack. He’s not the type of interior blocker who can re-establish the line of scrimmage, instead relying on angles and technique to win.
