Scouting Report: Strengths
- He’s very good in coverage when looking into the backfield in zone coverage.
- Shows a burst to close. Flashes explosive hitting ability and good lateral and downfield pursuit.
- Best attribute. Extreme quickness off the edge, has the flexibility to turn the corner.
- A dynamic edge rusher, Carraway has NFL-caliber quickness and speed. Gainer gets off the snap quickly and has the flexibility to bend the edge and the pure speed to close on the quarterback.
- He will always try to plow into the largest piles and has a good knack of ending up glued to the ballcarrier.
- He has enough speed to chase and run in pursuit. Gainer has the overall athleticism to hold up in space when dropping into coverage.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Has inconsistent read/react skills with streaky awareness when asked to drop in coverage. Is like a bull in a China shop with his aggressive style of play, causing him to play undisciplined and overpursue.
- Has lean limbs and needs to get stronger and add bulk to his frame.
- He’ll also need to be covered in the run game, more of a Will than a Mike in a 4-3 alignment.
