Scouting Report: Strengths
- Shows good instincts when facing the action in zone coverage, and Gray has solid ball skills.
- Has the quick feet to mirror receivers underneath. Gray also has the fluid hips and top-end speed to turn and run downfield. He shows good awareness when dropping into zone coverage, with good route recognition and the ability to break quickly and cover a lot of ground.
- Exceptionally quick, with the feet and fluidity to mirror underneath, including in the slot against the two-way go. Gray stays low in his backpedal and explodes toward the ball, with an outstanding closing burst.
- Has quick feet and excellent change-of-direction ability, capable of mirroring quickness underneath.
- Good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.
- Can track the ball downfield and gets his head around when playing in a trail position, and he shows excellent ball skills when breaking on a route. He’s a plus tackler in run support as well.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Feet aren’t ideal, as Gray gets sloppy in his backpedal and can be sluggish when transitioning to close on the ball.
- Has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition. Plays with adequate speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL.
