Draft Profile: Bio
Eric Gentry from Neumann Goretti High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Gentry joined Arizona State.

In 2021 as a freshman Gentry saw action in 13 games and played a total of 341 snaps at linebacker for the Sun Devils. He recorded 28 tackles, 9 assists, while adding 17 stops. In coverage Gentry notched up 2 pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 78.7.

After season's end Gentry transferred to USC where as a sophomore for the Trojans in 2022 Gentry played 10 games and took part in 511 snaps for the Trojans. He recorded decent 56 tackles, 14 assists, while adding 26 stops. In coverage Gentry made one pass breakup, one interception, and QB rating when targetted of 61.3. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 17 total pressures, and 10 QB hurries, 5 QB hits, and 2 sacks during the year.

In 2023 as a junior Gentry played in 10 games and contributed on 307 snaps. He recorded 31 tackles, 13 assists while making 19 stops. In coverage Gentry chalked up 2 pass breakups, one interception, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 128.9. As a pass rusher, he produced 6 total pressures, which included 4 QB hurries, one QB hit, and one sack on the year.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Gentry has quickness in his hands and uses his length effectively.
  • He plays bigger than his listed size, with the functional strength and motor to take on and hold ground against much bigger blockers.
  • The talent is there as a sideline-to-sideline playmaker.
  • He possesses an intriguing blend of size and movement skills. He has good length, wide shoulders, and long arms, and Gentry has room to add weight.
  • His ability to anticipate gives him legitimate sideline-to-sideline range. He’ll work hard to disengage when he has to, and he has the long arms and heavy hands to shed blocks.
  • He has enough speed to chase and run in pursuit. Gentry has the overall athleticism to hold up in space when dropping into coverage.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Lacks pop and strength to anchor, though. Most effective when uncovered inside and chasing stretch plays to the sideline.
  • Doesn’t play with a physical edge. Gentry too often wants to run around the edge, and Gentry has trouble disengaging when an offensive lineman can get into his frame.
  • While he has the take-on skills to be a 4-3 Mike, he’s probably better as a Will so he can maximize his range and speed.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
