Draft Profile: Bio
A move from receiver to the backfield in the fall of 2023 changed everything for Jamal Haynes. After two quiet seasons in Atlanta with no recorded touches, the Grayson High product took to the position immediately, rushing for 1,059 yards as a redshirt sophomore and earning third-team All-ACC honors along with Gasparilla Bowl MVP honors against UCF.His 2024 redshirt junior campaign brought another honorable mention All-ACC nod after he became the first Yellow Jacket to clear 900 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons since Jonathan Dwyer. He posted 944 yards and a career-high nine rushing scores on 169 carries, adding 28 catches for 166 yards and three more touchdowns through injury setbacks. A 170-yard outing at North Carolina ended with a 68-yard game-winner inside the final 20 seconds.
The 2025 redshirt senior year brought a steep drop, as Haynes managed just 537 rushing yards on 125 carries across 11 games behind a struggling Georgia Tech run game. He finished his career with more than 2,500 rushing yards and 82 receptions out of the backfield.
Scouting Report: Strengths

Scouting Report: Summary
The receiving toolkit is what carries Haynes into draft conversations. His route work out of the backfield is clean, he separates against linebackers on option routes, and the three-year sample of 28-plus receptions per season points to a player coordinators trust on passing downs. That skill set has a defined NFL role attached to it, and a team valuing third-down backs and screen-game specialists will see something to develop.The concerns are stacked, though. The 2025 tape shows a back who hesitates reading his blocks, dances behind the line, and rarely creates yardage that isn't already there. After-contact production cratered. He doesn't have the frame to handle interior carries against NFL fronts, the pass protection grade is alarming for a back asking to play on third down, and his hands tighten up when balls arrive away from his frame. The pro day burst is real, but burst without decisiveness gets neutralized at the next level.
The realistic path is a camp invite where he competes for a practice squad spot as a passing-down option and kick returner. Floor is a UDFA who washes out before September. Ceiling is a rotational change-of-pace back who carves out 15 to 20 snaps a week in obvious passing situations. The receiving background and route polish give him a skill that translates, but everything else needs work to stick on a 53.
