Jonathan Jefferson from Douglas County High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Jefferson joined Georgia after being heavily recruited.In 2021 as a freshman Jefferson saw action in just one game and played a total of 20 snaps for the Bulldogs. He recorded just 3 tackles, one assist, while adding 2 stops.
As a sophomore for the Bulldogs in 2022 Jefferson played in 4 games and took part in 24 snaps for the Bulldogs. He recorded just 2 tackles, no assists, while adding one stop.
In 2023 as a junior Jefferson played in 7 games and contributed on 67 snaps. He recorded just one tackle, no assists while making one stop. As a pass rusher, he produced 3 total pressures, which included 3 QB hurries, no QB hits, and no sacks on the year.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- He’s a high-effort pass rusher who shows good initial quickness and the ability to beat blockers to the inside.
- He’s quick to react and locate the ball, and Jefferson shows enough speed to succeed in backside pursuit. Jefferson plays with excellent balance and a strong, flexible core, rarely ending up on the ground.
- Rarely goes to the ground, showing good balance from his high school wrestling days.
- Agile run-stopper at end, extends to grab backs from the backside and possesses foot quickness and hustle to chase plays downfield. or to the sideline.
- His spin move is already NFL-caliber, and he displays a very good motor.
- Jefferson has an excellent motor and shows the stamina to last deep into the fourth quarter.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Jefferson doesn’t have a lot of suddenness to his game, and Jefferson won’t wreck plays on a regular basis.
- He’s very much a work in progress with his hand in the dirt. Jefferson doesn’t play with ideal physicality, often failing to set the edge as a run defender.
- While he moves well laterally, he doesn’t always get there in pursuit.
