Draft Profile: Bio
Malachi Coleman from Lincoln East High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Coleman opted to join Nebraska. In 2023 as a freshman Coleman saw action in 11 games for the Cornhuskers as he made 8 receptions for only 139 yards for an average of 17.4 yards per reception, with one TD, and only QB rating when targeted of 36.0.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Has a knack for getting open and is a quarterback's best friend - passers just need to toss the ball in his area and he'll come down with it.
- Coleman gets off the line with a nice burst and is very fluid in his movements with little wasted steps in his routes.
- Strong runner with the ball with enough agility to make defenders miss in the open field.
- A fluid mover capable of creating some separation over the middle of the field, Coleman has the long arms and soft hands to provide a sizable catch radius.
- Coleman also proved to be a force in catch-and-run situations. A violent runner who transitions upfield quickly after the catch, he has the speed to pick up chunks of yardage once he’s broken the first tackle.
- Has enough upper-body strength and tenacity to be very effective as a downfield blocker. Is not shy about taking on his man, provides some pop and will open a running lane for his back at the next level.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest.
- He’s not going to threaten to take the top off of a defense.
- Coleman also lacks suddenness as a route runner, and that is a potential issue at the next level.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
