Draft Profile: Bio
After one season at TCU, Fontenette became a two-year starter at Vanderbilt's STAR hybrid position before a second transfer. A four-star recruit from Brazosport High School in Texas, he played 12 games as a Horned Frogs freshman in 2023 and totaled 16 tackles.

Fontenette started all 12 games for Vanderbilt in 2024, finishing third on the team with 73 tackles, tying for the team lead with eight tackles for loss and pacing the Commodores with eight pass deflections. He added 3.5 sacks and returned his first career interception 29 yards for a touchdown in the upset of Alabama.

In 2025 he started all 13 games and recorded 52 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and six pass breakups, with a forced fumble at South Carolina and an eight-tackle outing against Auburn. Fontenette entered the portal in January 2026 with one season of eligibility left and committed to Colorado for the 2026 season.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Big nickel and box defender at 220 pounds with downhill physicality
  • Posted twenty-one run stops and 6.5 tackles for loss
  • Blitzes off the slot with timing to disrupt the pocket
  • Reliable tackler for the role, finishing stops near the line
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Not a pure cover corner, playing almost entirely in the box and slot
  • Never managed to record an interception despite the snap volume
  • Cover technique is poor against quicker separators in space
  • Average timed speed limits his range in open space
  • Tweener size and role complicate the position projection
Scouting Report: Summary
Fontenette is a 220-pound STAR defender listed at corner who plays more like a box safety or nickel linebacker, and his calling cards are downhill physicality, twenty-one run stops, and 6.5 tackles for loss. He blitzes off the slot with timing, finishes tackles reliably near the line, and brings the kind of sub-package versatility a defense can move around the front. The run-game production and the blitz value give him a defined, useful identity.

The position projection is the complication. He is not a pure cover corner, playing almost entirely in the box and slot, he did not record an interception despite the snap volume, and his man coverage is poor against quicker separators. His average timed speed limits his range in space, and the tweener size and role muddy where he fits. He is a run-and-blitz defender whose coverage works only from underneath.

Cast him as a box nickel and core special-teamer who blitzes, fits the run, and covers from underneath, a Day 3 role player rather than a cover corner, now headed to a new program on his final eligibility. The lack of coverage range and ball production caps the grade, but the physicality and the blitz value are bankable. He grades as a sub-package and special-teams defender best deployed near the line.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
