Scouting Report: Strengths
- Lower than offensive lineman on every short-yardage play. Good agility and ability to change direction for his size.
- He’s long but has a powerful lower body and plays with impressive leverage considering his tall frame.
- A compactly built, high-motor lineman, Matlock brings a nice blend of power and quickness. Matlock shows impressive get-off, often exploding off the line and getting into gaps before blockers can react.
- Possesses the length and power to ward off offensive tackles.
- Rarely goes to the ground, showing good balance from his high school wrestling days.
- Matlock has an excellent motor and shows the stamina to last deep into the fourth quarter.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- His spin move is a bit slow and mechanical. He’s susceptible to cut blocks, a tactic that was used on him often
- Needs to do a better job of being the aggressor and tossing blockers aside.
- Average athletically with average straight line speed and tight hips. Not a natural bender. Lacks secondary pass-rush moves.
