Shilo Sanders from Trinity Christian High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Sanders opted to join South Carolina after being heavily recruited.In 2019 as a freshman Sanders saw action in just one game and played a total of 33 snaps at cornerback for the Gamecocks. He recorded just one tackle, no assists, while adding no stops. In coverage Sanders notched up no pass breakups, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 56.3.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 9 games and logged 316 snaps for the Gamecocks. He made 26 tackles, 4 assists, and had 6 stops. In coverage he totaled one pass breakup, no interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 100.5.
After season's end Sanders transferred to Jackson State where as a junior for the Tigers in 2021 Sanders played in 13 games and took part in 602 snaps for the Tigers. - While built more like a cornerback than a safety, he has the vision, range, hitting ability, and ball skills teams want at free safety in the pass-heavy NFL.
- Flashes some physicality as a hitter.
- Tracks the ball well and has the natural ball skills for forcing turnovers.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Has a cornerback body and needs to continue to get stronger to be more effective shedding blocks.
- Sanders gets beat over the top too often, and Sanders tends to panic and get too handsy when running downfield.
- Despite his size, he’s not an overly physical tackler. Sanders might have to add some weight at the next level in order to become more physical.
