Draft Profile: Bio
Trevor Etienne, hailing from Jennings, Louisiana, was a standout at Jennings High School, where he was coached by Russell Phelps. During his high school career, Etienne led his team to a 26-20 record, including an 8-1 season that ended in the regional finals. He was a four-star recruit, ranked as high as the #2 running back prospect in Louisiana by Rivals. Etienne rushed for 1,344 yards and 20 touchdowns on 109 carries in his senior season, also playing safety and earning a spot in the 2022 All-American Bowl.
Etienne joined the Florida Gators in 2022 and made an immediate impact. As a freshman, he rushed for 705 yards on 110 carries, averaging 6.4 yards per carry, with 6 touchdowns and one fumble. In his sophomore year, Etienne continued to excel, rushing for 756 yards on 130 carries with 8 touchdowns, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. He also improved his receiving game, making 21 receptions for 172 yards in 2023. His performance earned him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2022 and the Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week for his career-high 172-yard game against Tennessee.
In 2024, Etienne transferred to Georgia, seeking a larger role in a proven system. At Florida, he accumulated 1,472 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns over two seasons. He also contributed 30 receptions for 238 yards and a touchdown, along with 671 kick return yards. With Georgia losing their top rushers to the NFL, Etienne is set to take on a leading role for the Bulldogs, aiming to build on his solid college career and enhance his prospects for the NFL draft.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Downhill runner with good momentum and excellent pad level, making him effective between the tackles.
- Competitive with a knack for high-pointing the ball, playing bigger than his size.
- Displays exceptional toughness and balance when finishing runs.
- Possesses a solid build, effective as both a scat-back and between the tackles.
- Strong hands in the passing game, with a quick turn upfield in the screen game.
- Excellent feel for setting up wheel routes, adding versatility to his game.
- Regularly sidesteps tacklers in space, using defenders' momentum against them effectively.
- Proven ability to handle contact and maintain balance, demonstrating physicality and quickness.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Lacks elite breakaway speed to consistently create separation.
- Route-running skills as a receiver need improvement for better utilization in passing plays.
- Can be overly comfortable in traffic, sometimes not making the effort to separate.
- Doesn't possess the instinct to flex out wide as a receiver, limiting his versatility.
- Needs to prove more as a receiver to elevate his draft stock and overall impact.
Scouting Report: Summary
Trevor Etienne has proven himself as a reliable and productive back with a downhill running style and good contact balance. His ability to pick up yards after contact and maintain a low pad level makes him an asset between the tackles. With 1,472 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in two seasons, his track record of consistent production speaks for itself. Etienne's knack for navigating tight spaces and finishing runs will be valuable at the next level.
However, Etienne has areas to improve. He lacks elite breakaway speed and needs to develop better route-running skills to become a more versatile weapon in the passing game. His comfort in traffic can sometimes prevent him from creating necessary separation. To maximize his impact, refining these aspects will be crucial. His hands are solid, but enhancing his receiving skills will elevate his game.
In the NFL, Etienne's physicality, quick burst, and ability to shed tackles will serve him well. If he can improve his separation ability and polish his receiving game, he has the potential to be a solid three-down back. His transition to the pro level will be closely watched, and his performance at Georgia suggests he has the tools to make an impact with the right coaching and opportunity. NFL teams will value his toughness and potential as a workhorse back.
