Maiava started his career at UNLV, where he earned Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2023 before transferring to USC.He took over the Trojans offense late in 2024 and started all of 2025, throwing for 3,711 yards and 24 touchdowns but also ten interceptions as his aggressiveness cut both ways, highlighted by a 412-yard, four-touchdown day against Georgia Southern.
He returned as a redshirt senior for 2026 and sharply cut the mistakes, opening with a school-record completion rate and throwing fourteen touchdowns against just two interceptions through five games while ranking among the nation's most efficient passers.
