Nebraska's top-ranked recruit in the 2023 class, Malachi Coleman played wide receiver and defensive end at Lincoln East High School and signed with the hometown Cornhuskers as a four-star prospect. As a true freshman in 2023 he appeared in 11 games with six starts, catching eight passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns. His role shrank in 2024, and he preserved a redshirt by playing just one game before entering the December portal.Coleman committed to Minnesota and spent 2025 with the Golden Gophers, appearing in eight games and running 86 routes, almost entirely on the outside. He finished with five receptions for 83 yards, including a 52-yard contested catch against Northwestern late in the year and a 15-yard grab against Nebraska, his former team, that moved the chains.
In January 2026 Coleman entered the portal again and committed to Wisconsin, his third Big Ten program in four seasons, arriving in Madison with two years of eligibility remaining.

Malachi Coleman is a size-and-upside flyer whose college career has yet to launch. A former top-ranked recruit at 6-foot-5, he offers rare length and flashed the catch radius on a 52-yard grab against Northwestern, and he did not drop a pass in his tiny 2025 sample at Minnesota. The frame is the entire pitch.Everything else is unproven. He caught just five passes for 83 yards on the season, he is on his third program in four years without ever carving out a role, and he remains an extremely raw route runner with almost no track record. He has struggled to earn snaps at multiple stops, so a team is betting purely on the tools.
He fits a vertical offense willing to develop a big-bodied project slowly. Overall, the height and length are worth a look, but Coleman projects as a practice-squad-caliber developmental receiver whose draft case rests entirely on physical potential rather than production, the kind of long-term swing a team makes with a late-round flier or a priority free-agent deal and plenty of patience. Nothing about the profile is safe, but 6-foot-5 receivers who move at all are worth a developmental spot, and the length is the one thing a coaching staff simply cannot teach, which is why a team will spend a camp on him.
