Draft Profile: Bio
Dante Lovett from DeMatha Catholic High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, Lovett opted to join Virginia Tech.In 2023 as a freshman Lovett saw action in 9 games and played a total of 57 snaps at cornerback for the Hokies. He recorded just 3 tackles, 2 assists, while adding one stop. In coverage Lovett notched up 3 pass breakups, no interceptions, and an elite QB rating when targetted of 42.4.
As a sophomore in 2024 he played in 4 games and logged 54 snaps for the Hokies. He made no tackles, no assists, and had no stops. In coverage he totaled 2 pass breakups, no interceptions, and an elite QB rating when targetted of 39.6.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Lovett has the straight-line speed to recover. His ball skills are tremendous, with good hands and the potential to take it to the house any time Lovett gets his hands on the ball.
- He’s long and strong enough in his core to steer receivers to the sideline without getting grabby with his hands when playing inside technique.
- Willing and successful blitzing off the edge. Consideration for a move to safety with a combination of range and sure tackling.
- Has the quick feet to mirror receivers underneath. He also has the fluid hips and top-end speed to turn and run downfield. He shows good awareness when dropping into zone coverage, with good route recognition and the ability to break quickly and cover a lot of ground.
- Has the quick, agile feet and fluid hips to mirror quickness and change direction underneath. But he’s at his best facing the action.
- Lovett can flip his hips and run, with good top-end speed and the length to make plays on the ball.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Questionable technique and Lovett gets lazy with fundamentals, sometimes getting high in his backpedal and will breach the coverage call seeking flashy plays
- Susceptible to double moves, though that could be coached out of him. But the problem is that he doesn’t track the ball downfield, and he seems to lack the ball skills to break up plays.
- Tends to play conservatively and give too much cushion when playing off.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank

For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
