Smothers began at Oklahoma before two productive years at NC State, where he earned first-team All-ACC in 2025 and led the conference in rushing yards per game while proving remarkably sure-handed, with no fumbles and no drops on nearly 200 touches.He transferred to Texas for 2026 and quickly became the Longhorns' most reliable back, running for 74 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-23 win over Ohio State on the way to roughly 200 rushing yards plus receiving work through the early season.
At 5-11 and 195 pounds he is a shifty, dependable three-down back whose ball security and receiving are his calling cards.
