Draft Profile: Bio
Jonathan Mendoza from Westhampton Beach High School was rated a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports with a rating of 0.810. Following high school, Mendoza opted to join Yale.

In 2021 as a freshman Mendoza saw action in 7 games and played a total of 366 snaps for the Bulldogs. He allowed 14 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and 2 sacks while playing the majority of his snaps at left tackle, and the rest at right guard.

As a sophomore in 2022 he played in 8 games and a total of 476 snaps. He conceded 7 QB hurries, no QB hits, and one sack while playing at right tackle.

In 2023 as a junior Mendoza saw action in 10 games and totaled 662 snaps. He gave up 11 QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and one sack while playing the majority of his snaps at left tackle, and the rest at right guard.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Coordinated when moving to the second level as a run blocker, capable of landing blocks on the move.
  • Attacks his man, playing with a wide base and the lateral agility to mirror, sustain and shuffle to help inside. Has the size, strength and quick feet to be effective as a position run-blocker.
  • Mendoza has the size teams look for at the tackle spots, and that is probably enough to get him a look as a swing tackle.
  • Fires out of his stance with a good pad level, consistently winning at the point of attack.
  • He’s a coordinated athlete who can win at the point of attack in the run game, and Mendoza can also move to consistently land blocks at the second level.
  • Has violent hands and, when his placement is right, can control pass rushers. He’s aggressive in the run game, with a good initial burst off the line of scrimmage and a mean streak and willingness to play through the whistle.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • A short-area blocker with limited range and doesn't consistently get to the second level. Will play undisciplined at times, especially in space. Lacks a finishing attitude.
  • For all of his physical gifts, often gets terribly sloppy, especially in pass protection.
  • While Mendoza displays a decent amount of strength at the point of attack, he lacks the raw power to re-establish the line of scrimmage in short-yardage situations.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
