Draft Profile: Bio
Shamar Porter from Ensworth High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Porter opted to join Kentucky.

In 2023 as a freshman Porter saw action in just one game for the Wildcats and didn't feature in the passing game.

After season's end Porter transferred to UConn where as a sophomore in 2024 he played in 4 games and had only 3 catches for 75 yards for an average of 25.0 yards per catch, with 2 TDs, and an elite QB rating when targeted of 156.3.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • He’s very good in contested-catch situations, using his frame effectively to make plays facing the quarterback. Porter also shows a knack for high-pointing the ball, consistently outmuscling defensive backs.
  • Often used on deep routes, getting separation down the sideline or over the middle on crossing routes by extending his arms rather than pure speed.
  • Escaping the jam won’t be a problem with his upper-body strength and quick hands. He’ll help as a perimeter blocker in the run game.
  • His long arms allow him to play bigger than his size, and Porter has a frame that can carry a little more weight.
  • He’s also a catch-and-run threat, a creative runner who has good vision in the open field; he’ll be an option to return kicks as well.
  • He transitions quickly from receiver to runner, and he has enough speed to threaten the seam.
  • Porter has quick feet and good body control, allowing him to gear down and quickly get in and out of cuts. His hands are good, and he’s a creative runner after the catch with the elusiveness to slip tackles in space.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest.
  • Porter lacks the twitch to create consistent separation, and despite his size and ability to track the ball downfield, Porter isn’t great on contested catches.
  • He also had problems with drops when coming back to the action. Porter has some issues against press coverage, sometimes spending too much time hand fighting at the line of scrimmage.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
