Haynes King from Longview High School was rated a 4-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 4-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, King opted to join Texas A&M.In 2020 as a freshman King saw action in just 2 games for the Aggies as he threw for only 59 yards on 4 attempts with a completion percent of 50 for an average of 14.8 yards per pass, with only one TD, while taking no sacks, and QB rating of 95.8.
In 2021 as a sophomore he played in just 2 games as he passed for only 300 yards on 35 attempts with a completion percent of 62.9 for an average of 8.6 yards per pass, with only 2 TDs, while also taking 2 sacks, and putting up QB rating of 73.5.
As a junior in 2022 King played a total of 6 games. He passed for 1220 yards on 188 attempts and put up a completion percentage of 55.3 for an average of 6.5 yards per attempt, with only 7 TDs, and allowing 7 sacks, with QB rating on the year of 74.3. As a runner he logged 24 runs for a total of 117 yards at an average of 4.9 per run.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Good (not elite) arm strength and can easily make all the NFL throws with effortless deep passes.
- He’s an athlete who runs well and must be accounted for in the read-option game.
- Sees the field very well when the play breaks down and occasionally changes plays at the line.
- King must be accounted for when used in the read-option game.
- He is enough of a threat as a runner to earn respect from back-side defenders at the next level, opening opportunities for running backs.
- King has a quick release and shows good accuracy on shorter throws when on the move to either side.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- King has a bad habit of fading and throwing off his back foot when the pocket gets muddled, and King is too often all arm when throwing on the move, sacrificing accuracy.
- Very ordinary arm, though there is room for improvement with better technique. Lacks strength to stretch the field horizontally or vertically. Throws too many passes flat-footed or without his feet being set.
- Sails throws to either sideline; receivers make him look good with acrobatic catches. Back-foot throws are not accurate. Sometimes trusts his arm too much, trying to stick passes late in the play or when off-balance.
