Draft Profile: Bio
After high school, Burton opted to join Southern Illinois.

In 2018 as a freshman Burton saw action in 4 games for the Salukis as he made 4 receptions for just 32 yards for an average of 8.0 yards per reception, with one TD, and an excellent QB rating when targeted of 100.0.

As a sophomore in 2019 he played just 3 games and had just 3 catches for 51 yards for an average of 17.0 yards per catch, with no TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 94.6.

After season's end Burton transferred to Florida Atlantic where as a junior in 2021 he played 12 games and hauled in 28 catches for 497 yards for an average of 17.8 yards per catch, with 3 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 82.3.

As a senior in 2022 he played 12 games and had 33 catches for 517 yards for an average of 15.7 yards per catch, 4 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 100.7.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • He’s a fluid athlete with excellent short-area quickness; Burton should be able to create separation, and he has the straight-line speed to threaten down the seam.
  • Made Bruce Feldman's Freak's List - ranked #21. He wrote "The 185-pound wideout bench-presses 345 and power-cleans 345. Even more remarkable: He vertical-jumped 45 inches this offseason and broad-jumped 11-5. He ran a fully automated timed (FAT) 40 in 4.36 seconds. So don’t be shocked if he proves to be more of a big-play weapon for FAU this fall."
  • He’s coordinated with soft, reliable hands, and he shows the ability to adjust to balls thrown behind him, as well as a knack for digging out low throws.
  • Fluid athlete with explosive burst and speed to stretch the field and breeze past defenders. Has a quick first step and gets to top speed in a hurry.
  • His long arms allow him to play bigger than his size, and he has a frame that can carry a little more weight.
  • Burton shows good initial quickness off the line of scrimmage, and he has enough strength to be able to consistently escape the jam at the next level. He’s a coordinated hands catcher who effectively tracks the ball downfield.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest.
  • Burton fights hard for the ball, but Burton too often fights to catch it; there are too many double catches on his highlight reel. It shows up in contested-catch situations in the red zone.
  • He’s elusive with the ball in his hands, but he won’t break a lot of tackles. Because getting separation is going to be an issue, he’s likely going to need to line up off the line of scrimmage.
  • He’s short and slight, a non-option as a boundary receiver and a non-factor blocking in the run game.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
