The No. 1 offensive tackle and a top-25 overall recruit in the 2024 class, Baker starred at Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California, and chose Texas over Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia and Oregon, drawing comparisons from his position coach to first-round Longhorn tackle Kelvin Banks. He earned playing time early and worked at both tackle and guard, where the staff moved him to take advantage of his quickness inside.In 2025 Baker took 500 pass-blocking snaps and 373 in the run game across thirteen games, allowing 23 pressures while drawing twelve penalties as a young blocker still cleaning up his technique. Trajectory is the story here. Baker took over the right tackle job in 2025 and drew Ohio State's pass rush in his first career start, a five-pressure night that could have wrecked a young season. Instead the improvement came week over week, and by January he was closing with his best tape, including a near-flawless pass-protection outing against Michigan in the bowl game. He never allowed a sack all year, and the set quickness, patience and frame control that made him a five-star at Mater Dei translate exactly as projected.Two issues temper the enthusiasm. Twelve penalties is a glaring number that has to be coached out before he can be trusted in one-score NFL games, and the pressure count says the clean sack line flatters him; help and quick throws bailed him out of late hurries more than once. The run game is the weaker half, built on positioning rather than force, and the Texas staff spent the season pushing him to play heavier through contact before moving him inside to guard for 2026 partly to force the issue.
The package reads as a high-floor lineman whose final NFL position is an open question: the pass protection plays at tackle, while the guard experience could speed his path to the field. Wherever he lines up, the arrow has pointed straight up since September, and blockers who improve this fast this young usually keep improving.
