Draft Profile: Bio
Brandon Joseph attended College Station High School where he earned All-State honors while playing both ways in 2018 and led his school to the Texas 5A State Championship and was also an Academic All-State honoree. He was rated a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports with a scout's rating of 0.850. Following high school, Joseph opted to join Northwestern.

In 2019 as a freshman Joseph saw action in just 2 games and played a total of 13 snaps at safety for the Wildcats. He recorded just 3 tackles.

As a sophomore in 2020 he played in 9 games and logged 620 snaps for the Wildcats. He made 39 tackles, 12 assists, and had 13 stops. In coverage he made an impressive 6 interceptions

After the season's end Joseph surprisingly oped to enter the transfer protocol instead of heading to the NFL draft. He logged 23 tackles, 9 assists, and made 7 stops. In coverage, Joseph had a pass breakup, one interception, and surrendered a very respectable QB rating when targetted of 70.7.

Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Does a good job getting his head around in time when playing with his back to the line of scrimmage. Has the ability to cover quickness underneath.
  • Tracks the ball well downfield and shows good ball skills, including the ability to go up and high-point it in contested-catch situations.
  • High football IQ - who everything pretty well
  • He is a real ball hawk with excellent overall ball skills. Joseph tracks the ball well downfield and has the hands and coordination to come away with interceptions even when Joseph isn’t targeted often.
  • Very good soft hands - proof of his background as a receiver
  • Able to rove from sideline to sideline - very rangy player
  • Gives up his body in run support with a very good closing burst.
  • Good strength to tackle. Plays with high energy and is a tough-minded overachiever.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Has decent but not great speed and probably shouldn't be trusted in deep coverage against receivers
  • Overall coverage will never be elite and his upside is limited as a result
  • Has very inconsistent tackling technique and too often just throws himself at the lower body of the ball carrier instead of wrapping up.
  • Plays out of control too often, laying a lot of big hits but also missing a lot of tackles along the way. Joseph also needs to do a better job reading routes when sitting back as a single-high safety.
  • Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.
  • Needs to tighten his angles in pursuit. Needs to show better tackling technique to consistently finish.
Scouting Report: Summary
Brandon Joseph is a solid prospect who does everything pretty well but nothing at an elite level and is a kind of low-ceiling high-floor kind of player, who can quickly become a solid NFL starter in the right system, but is unlikely to set the league on fire. We currently have a third-round grade on him heading into the 2023 NFL Draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
