Draft Profile: Bio
Charlie Jones from Deerfield High School was unrated coming out of high school and after struggling to find a program to join he headed to Buffalo. In 2018 as a freshman Jones saw action in 14 games for the Bulls as he made 18 receptions for 395 yards for an average of 21.9 yards per reception, with 3 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 84.8.
After season's end Jones transferred to Iowa where as a sophomore in 2020 he played in 6 games but featured little in the passing game.
As a junior in 2021 he played 14 games and hauled in 21 catches for 323 yards for an average of 15.4 yards per catch, with 3 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 110.3. He also contributed on special teams as the main kickoff and punt returner for the Hawkeyes.
After the end of the season Jones once again transferred this time to Purdue where as a senior in 2022 he exploded as he played 13 games and had an elite 110 catches for an elite 1361 yards for an average of 12.4 yards per catch, 12 TDs, and a QB rating when targeted of 119.0.

- 2021 Reggie Roby Special Teams Award, specialist
- 2021 First-team All-Big Ten return specialist by league coaches and media
- 2021 First-team All-Big Ten kick return specialist by Phil Steele
- 2020 Honorable mention All-America return specialist by Phil Steele

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Has outstanding hands and has just six drops in his entire college career
- Although Jones is more of a possession target than a field stretcher, he has a fiercely competitive demeanor and run-after-catch ability make him a major threat in the middle of the field.
- A savvy, natural pass-catcher with reliable hands and very good focus. Snatches the ball out of the air and shows the concentration to make acrobatic catches look easy.
- Jones tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws.
- Jones is a natural playmaker, at his best with the ball in his hands.
- Runs effective crisp routes and does a great job of disguising them from DBs
- His competitiveness and knack for high-pointing the ball allow him to play bigger than his size.
- Really surprised at the combine with 4.43 forty - scouts will now take a second look. He may now be viewed a potential deep threat
- Is an effective and consistent kick and punt returner - make him much more useful to an NFL team
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Very undersized prospect - who'll likely be viewed as a slot-only player
- Has decent short area quickness although it's not elite and this limits his ability to shake off quality man corners
- Despite playing four years at multiple schools has had only a single year where he was dominant - limited experience
- Despite having good timed speed Jones probably won't be viewed as the kind of player to threaten to take the top of the defense.
- Jones lacks the twitch to create consistent separation, and despite his size and ability to track the ball downfield, he isn’t always great on contested catches.
Scouting Report: Summary
Following Charlie Jones' transfer to Purdue and a huge year there where he put up 1361 yds as a receiver he's gone from being a likely UDFA prospect to a player viewed as a mid-round prospect. He's got good fantastic hands, runs great routes, and at the combine displayed surprising timed speed and impressive agility which really boosted his stock. He however is just 5-11 and weighs just 175lbs and so will be looked at as a role player at the next level.Expect Jones to be selected as high as the fourth round in the 2023 NFL draft and contribute early as a special teamer.
