After high school, Coleman joined Jacksonville State.In 2019 as a freshman Coleman saw action in 12 games and played a total of 567 snaps for the Gamecocks. He recorded 31 tackles, 11 assists, while adding 28 stops. As a pass rusher, he added 39 total pressures, which included 30 QB hurries, 4 QB hits, and 5 sacks on the season.
As a sophomore for the Gamecocks in 2020 Coleman played in 13 games and took part in 665 snaps for the Gamecocks. He recorded 26 tackles, 11 assists, while adding 27 stops. As a pass rusher, he chalked up 47 total pressures, and 31 QB hurries, 6 QB hits, and an excellent 10 sacks during the year.
In 2021 as a junior Coleman played in 11 games and contributed on 501 snaps. He recorded 38 tackles, 5 assists while making 22 stops. In coverage Coleman chalked up no pass breakups, no interceptions, and a QB rating when targetted of 95.8. As a pass rusher, he produced 21 total pressures, which included 14 QB hurries, 3 QB hits, and 4 sacks on the year.
After season's end Coleman transferred to Missouri where as a senior for the Tigers in 2022 Coleman played 12 games and took part in 371 snaps for the Tigers. He also added 25 tackles, 4 assists, and 25 stops. As a pass rusher, he tallied 20 total pressures, which included 6 QB hurries, 8 QB hits, and 6 sacks on the season.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- His hand use is excellent; he’s strong in the upper body and consistently swats away blockers.
- Coleman shows impressive burst and enough quickness to occasionally threaten the edge as a pass rusher.
- Sacks and pressures are product of hustle. Gives effort on every play. Holds the point with length and strong upper body.
- A technician with a high motor, Coleman has a variety of moves and displays exceptionally good hand use. He shows a strong finishing burst and has the power to hold at the point of attack as a run defender.
- He’s very good with his hands, a technician with the violence, quickness, and the long arms to ward off blockers. He has a great motor and enough creativity to make plays late in the down as a pass rusher.
- Coleman has an excellent motor and shows the stamina to last deep into the fourth quarter.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Plays tall, lacks athleticism to break down against elusive ballcarriers.
- Coleman has to develop a counter move or two in the pass rush, and Coleman needs to make better use of his hands.
- Average athletically with average straight line speed and tight hips. Not a natural bender. Lacks secondary pass-rush moves.
