Draft Profile: Bio
Davonte Brown attended American Heritage High School and was rated a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports with a scout's rating of 0.830, going unranked by ESPN. Following high school, Brown opted to join UCF.

In 2020 as a freshman Brown saw action in 9 games and played a total of 411 snaps at Cornerback for the Knights. He recorded 22 tackles, one assist, while adding 2 stops. In coverage Brown notched up one pass breakup, no interceptions, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 133.1.

As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 13 games and logged 763 snaps for the Knights. He made 26 tackles, 8 assists, and had 11 stops. In coverage he totaled 7 pass breakups, one interception, and a very good QB rating when targetted of 62.1.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Shows the click-and-close ability to backpedal and the ball skills to make plays. Brown has loose hips to go along with good top-end speed, and Brown can flip around to turn and run in coverage.
  • His length and leaping ability allow him to high-point the ball and make plays. Brown would have had bigger interception numbers in college had opposing quarterbacks not gone out of their way to avoid him.
  • Has at least adequate straight-line speed and good balance, fluidity to change direction.
  • Extremely aggressive to come up and put his body in traffic to make tackles.
  • Tracks the ball well downfield and shows good ball skills, including the ability to go up and high-point it in contested-catch situations.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Grab-and-drag tackler who will struggle to make plays against running backs, and he’ll be susceptible to some catch-and-run plays against bigger receivers.
  • Is undersized and underpowered when lining up in press coverage. Brown simply lacks power in his punch.
  • NFL teams are going to test him deep early on, and he’ll also be prone to flags since he’s grabby downfield.
  • Better in press coverage than in off coverage, when Brown can look shaky and unsure when transitioning out of his backpedal. He’ll give up throws underneath.
