Honors & awards
- Led the ACC in pass breakups in both 2020 and 2021
- Freshman All-American by The Athletic in 2020
- All-ACC selection in 2020, 2021 and 2022
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Can track the ball downfield and gets his head around when playing in a trail position, and Williams shows excellent ball skills when breaking on a route. He’s a plus tackler in run support as well.
- Shows outstanding explosion and decent long speed
- His length and leaping ability allow him to high-point the ball and make plays. Williams would have had bigger interception numbers in college had opposing quarterbacks not gone out of their way to avoid him.
- Has the loose hips that enable him to fluidly transition from out of his backpeddle
- Does a good job getting his head around in time when playing with his back to the line of scrimmage. Has the ability to cover quickness underneath.
- His ball skills are tremendous, with good hands and the potential to take it to the house any time he gets his hands on the ball.
- Really solid tackler and an asset in run defense - shows the kind of ability to play safety
- Reads and reacts instinctively to the QB moves and will rarely bite on play fakes
- A very quick and very confident cover corner plays bigger than his listed size when lined up in press coverage, delivering quick, surprisingly powerful punches and using his natural quickness and change-of-direction ability to mirror on underneath routes.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Has a high backpedal and loses a step in transition. Plays with adequate speed but there are serious concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL
- Suffered an ACL tear in 2022 - which must check out medically before he's given serious draft consideration
- He has undisciplined footwork and has a bad habit of flipping his hips too late in the play, leaving him playing catchup
- The majority of the time last season, Williams was able to physically overwhelm opposing receivers early in the down, a scenario that won’t play out as often against NFL receivers
- Has had a career QB rating when targetted of 100.6, although in 2022 this was 84.1 (still by any metric not great)
- Neither his size nor his straight-line speed would be considered elite - this could be further impacted by the ACL injury
Scouting Report: Summary
Garrett Williams is a solid corner prospect who possesses outstanding quickness, nice short-area coverage skills, good hands, and a none stop motor. He however has always had questionable long speed and this will be further in question following an ACL injury suffered last October. Williams has also never consistently displayed shutdown corner ability and his career 100.6 QB rating when targeted raises some serious red flags. As it stands Williams represents value no higher than a fourth-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft.Garrett Williams percentiles vs other Cornerbacks (NFL Combine historically - higher value represents better perfomance)

The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
