Jacob Cowing from Maricopa High School was rated a After high school, Cowing opted to join UTEP.In 2019 as a freshman Cowing saw action in 12 games for the Miners as he made 31 receptions for 550 yards for an average of 17.7 yards per reception, with 3 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 91.1.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played 8 games and had 41 catches for 691 yards for an average of 16.9 yards per catch, with 3 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 88.2.
As a junior in 2021 he played 13 games and hauled in 69 catches for an elite 1361 yards for an average of 19.7 yards per catch, with 7 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 111.0.
After the end of the season Cowing transferred to Arizona where as a senior in 2022 he played 12 games and had an elite 85 catches for an elite 1034 yards for an average of 12.2 yards per catch, 7 TDs, and QB rating when targeted of 100.9.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Cowing has the straight-line speed to stretch the middle of the field, and Cowing consistently runs away from defenders in catch-and-run situations.
- He was frequently put in catch-and-run situations, and he shows good vision with the ability to make tacklers miss in space. He’ll also break a tackle or two; he’s extremely competitive and will give effort as a downfield blocker.
- He plays with a smoothness and balance, and he shows a knack for setting up defensive backs.
- Cowing tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws.
- A slippery runner with elusive footwork. Has little to no wasted movements between the reception and burst upfield.
- He’s extremely coordinated as a pass catcher, a natural in the screen game. He’s deadly when he’s in space, with true breakaway speed.
- He’s also a catch-and-run threat, a creative runner who has good vision in the open field; he’ll be an option to return kicks as well.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Cowing also had problems with drops when coming back to the action. He has some issues against press coverage, sometimes spending too much time hand fighting at the line of scrimmage.
- Cowing isn’t going to overwhelm opposing defensive backs with speed and athleticism.
- He’ll have to develop a better feel for sitting down against zone coverage.
