Draft Profile: Bio
Once a top-50 recruit in ESPN's rankings, Jaquaize Pettaway played at Langham Creek High School in Houston and signed with Oklahoma as a four-star prospect rated the No. 87 overall player in the 2023 class by the On3 Industry Rankings. He saw action in six games as a Sooner freshman, making 11 receptions for 70 yards, then appeared in 11 games in 2024 with five catches for 87 yards before entering the December portal.Pettaway committed to East Carolina and spent 2025 working primarily from the slot for the Pirates. He appeared in 10 games with one start and finished with 14 receptions for 33 yards, posting a season-best four catches for 24 yards with a contested grab against Army. He also caught two passes in the opener at NC State and drew three targets against Tulsa.
East Carolina retained Pettaway on its roster heading into 2026, when the former Oklahoma wideout is set to use his final season of eligibility in Greenville.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Quick slot with the release to uncover against inside leverage
- Former top-50 recruit who carries real recruiting pedigree
- Willing to work the short and intermediate middle
- Adds depth and alignment versatility across the slot spots
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Almost no production, 14 catches for 33 yards in 2025
- Extremely low average depth of target, wins nothing downfield
- Slight frame that offers limited contested ability downfield
- Buried or ineffective at each of three college stops
- No track record of meaningful receiving output anywhere
Scouting Report: Summary
Jaquaize Pettaway is a pedigree flyer whose production has never arrived. Once a top-50 recruit, the quick slot has the release to uncover against inside leverage, and the recruiting billing suggests tools worth developing. That promise is essentially the whole case. The tape is difficult. He caught 14 passes for just 33 yards at East Carolina in 2025, an extremely low average depth that shows a player winning nothing downfield, and his slight frame offers little in contested situations. Across three college stops he has been either buried or ineffective, leaving no track record of meaningful receiving output to project from.
He fits a spread offense that could develop him as a depth slot and gunner while the game comes along. Overall, the quickness and pedigree keep him on the fringe of the conversation, but Pettaway projects as a practice-squad-type receiver whose draft case rests almost entirely on the recruiting profile and the hope that a new setting unlocks something his college production never showed. Realistically the path runs through special teams and a practice squad, where the quickness and return potential can keep him around while a staff tries to coax out the player the rankings once saw. Without a leap in production, the receiver role is hard to project at all.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank
in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance.
For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.
*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
