Jared Wayne from Clearwater Academy International High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Wayne opted to join Pittsburgh.In 2019 as a freshman Wayne saw action in 8 games for the Panthers as he made 18 receptions for 261 yards for an average of 14.5 yards per reception, with one TD, and QB rating when targeted of 82.4.
As a sophomore in 2020 he played 8 games and had 21 catches for 325 yards for an average of 15.5 yards per catch, with one TD, and just QB rating when targeted of 55.4.
As a junior in 2021 he played 13 games and hauled in 47 catches for 658 yards for an average of 14.0 yards per catch, with 6 TDs, and an excellent QB rating when targeted of 130.9.

Scouting Report: Strengths
- Although Wayne is more of a possession target than a field stretcher, he fiercely competitive demeanor and run-after-catch ability make him a major threat in the middle of the field.
- Wayne shows good initial quickness off the line of scrimmage, and he has enough strength to be able to consistently escape the jam at the next level. He’s a coordinated hands catcher who effectively tracks the ball downfield.
- Does not possess top breakaway speed, though he's rarely caught from behind.
- Balanced, savvy route runner with top field awareness, setting up and selling routes beautifully.
- Wayne tracks the ball well downfield and consistently runs under long throws.
- An excellent blocker on the outside, he also adds value in the running game.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- His ability to track the ball is good enough, but Wayne too often let the ball get into his body downfield rather than snatching it with his hands.
- Does not always use his hands to secure deep throws, allowing the ball into his pads and chest.
- Comes off the snap high and upright, and doesn't get to top speed quickly. Not sudden or elusive.
