Draft Profile: Bio
Jaylon Jones attended Steele High School, was an Under Armour All-American and named District Defensive MVP as a result was rated a 5-star prospect by 247 Sports. Following high school, Jones opted to join Texas A&M after being heavily recruited.

In 2020 as a freshman Jones saw action in 10 games and played a total of 583 snaps at cornerback for the Aggies. He recorded 29 tackles, 2 assists, while adding 8 stops. In coverage, Jones notched up 4 pass breakups, one interception, and a QB rating when targetted of 108.3.

As a sophomore in 2021 he played in 12 games and logged 792 snaps for the Aggies. He made 31 tackles, 5 assists, and had 11 stops. In coverage he totaled 6 pass breakups, 2 interceptions, and QB rating when targetted of 83.6.

In 2022 as a junior Jones played in 10 games and contributed on 601 snaps. He chalked up 30 tackles, 8 assists, and added 9 stops. In the secondary Jones forced one pass breakup, no interceptions, and gave up QB rating when targetted of 66.6.
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Powerful strong corner Ideal sized corner standing 6-2 and weighing in at 200lbs
  • Gives great effort in run support, sticking his nose in as a tackler, and should be able to contribute as a special teamer covering kicks
  • Fluid player in coverage - with a smooth transition out of his backpedal
  • Samrt player who's rarely caught off guard by play action or head fakes
  • He’s tall-framed with long arms to match. With his powerful hands, straight-line speed, and fluidity in his hips, turning and chasing downfield shouldn’t be a problem.
  • Willing in run support, coming downhill quickly when Jones has a chance to make a play.
  • Tracks the ball well downfield and shows good ball skills, including the ability to go up and high-point it in contested-catch situations.
  • Good hustle player who puts himself in the action when he's not directly involved. Knows how to use his height and vertical leap.
  • He’s excellent in run support, a physical hitter who could also get a look at safety
  • In the run game, he’s aggressive coming downhill and a sure tackler.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • His production was until 2022 far from elite and he needed help in coverage
  • Is far too grabby - especially apparent when playing against speedier receivers
  • Not a great open field tackler
  • His long speed is only average - ran a 4.57 forty at the combine
  • Opens his hips too early and allows himself to get turned around in coverage
  • Has a high backpedal and sometimes loses a step in transition. Plays with adequate speed but there are concerns about his ability to handle the truly explosive speedsters of the NFL.
  • Gave up far too many big plays in college, especially concerning since Jones doesn't have the recovery speed to make up for missteps.
Scouting Report: Summary
Jaylon Jones is a tall corner with the ideal size for the position, although he lined up in the slot for a significant proportion of the time at college he'll be viewed as an outside player at the pro level. His body of work has been inconsistent and his long speed is a little pedestrian - this limits his pro potential and the likelihood of being drafted early. While the former five-star recruit has some talent - it's not high enough to warrant a selection any higher than the fifth round of the 2023 NFL draft.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
