Scouting Report: Strengths
- Ngata fights his way off the line of scrimmage against press coverage, showing quick, violent hands and good balance.
- Ngata shows good initial quickness off the line of scrimmage, and Ngata has enough strength to be able to consistently escape the jam at the next level. He’s a coordinated hands catcher who effectively tracks the ball downfield.
- He’s also a catch-and-run threat, a creative runner who has good vision in the open field; he’ll be an option to return kicks as well.
- Physical player able to get off press coverage to release up the sideline or position himself inside the cornerback on slants and crossing routes.
- Has the strong hands any NFL wide receiver coach and quarterback would covet. Tracks the deep ball over either shoulder and brings in passes fluidly without breaking stride downfield.
- A long-striding athlete with good playing speed. Usually sure-handed with the concentration to snatch the ball out of the air.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- A straight-line athlete with only average speed, lacking the wheels to run away from anyone at the next level. Struggles separating in tight coverage.
- Ngata seems comfortable in traffic to the point where Ngata doesn’t make the effort to create separation.
- Ngata really isn’t a guy who will create a lot of separation.
