Josh DeBerry from De La Salle Collegiate High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. Following high school, DeBerry opted to join Boston College.In 2019 as a freshman DeBerry saw action in 5 games and played a total of 131 snaps at cornerback for the Eagles. - Has the change-of-direction ability to mirror underneath but did solid work out of press and off coverage.
- DeBerry tracks the ball well and does a nice job of getting his head around in plenty of time to avoid flags.
- He has the straight-line speed to recover. His ball skills are tremendous, with good hands and the potential to take it to the house any time DeBerry gets his hands on the ball.
- Tracks the ball well and has the natural ball skills for forcing turnovers.
- Tracks the ball well downfield and shows good ball skills, including the ability to go up and high-point it in contested-catch situations.
- Top-end speed is good and is capable of turning and running in press coverage. DeBerry also shows good instincts when sitting back in zone and looking into the backfield.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Gets sloppy with his backpedal when playing off-man and seems to lack the instincts to close on the ball.
- Tends to play conservatively and give too much cushion when playing off.
- Making the tackle against bigger backs is a potential issue.
