Scouting Report: Strengths
- An agile mover who puts his length to good use, using his hands assertively but could improve the precision of his punches. Suamataia can move to the second level as a run blocker, with the coordination and balance to hit moving targets.
- Has good footwork and technique. Shows balanced and agile pass protection set with decent hand placement.
- Is effective when asked to pull, showing the agility, speed, and overall range to get out as a lead blocker, where Suamataia locates defenders and shows the ability to adjust and land blocks against linebackers.
- Coordinated when moving to the second level as a run blocker, capable of landing blocks on the move.
- Suamataia has long arms that assist him as a pass protector on the edge, but he sometimes struggles with balance.
- Lone concern is handling the superquick NFL edge rusher. Foot speed and quickness are very good, but not elite.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Needs to avoid letting pass rushers get into his body, work on using his considerable length to deliver a punch. Suamataia is going to have some difficulty if he’s asked to block on an island early on.
- As a pass protector, Suamataia gets caught reaching and lunging when matched up against quickness.
- Needs to improve the coordination of his hands and feet. Sometimes loses balance in the run game, lunging into contact rather than sinking his hips and delivering a block.
