Honors & awards
  • Finalist for the 2022 Bronko Nagurski Award as the nation’s top defensive player
  • 2022 Associated Press and Coaches' All-SEC First Team
Scouting Report: Strengths
  • Has a nice well developed coverage technique - excels in press coverage playing as a nickel corner
  • Excellent in run defense - takes efficient angles and rarely misses tackles
  • Has been elite in coverage over the past years at Georgia - both years he's given up less than a 55 QB rating
  • Versatile DB - he's equally happy defending the rin in the box, playing as a traditional free safety, or covering the slot as a nickel corner
  • Has incredible football awareness a real student of the game - is to read and react quickly and stay balanced and patient in space.
  • His ball skills are very good. Smith tracks the ball well downfield and has the hands and coordination to come away with interceptions even when Smith isn’t targeted often.
  • Has the change-of-direction ability to mirror underneath but did solid work out of press and off coverage.
  • Does a good job getting his head around in time when playing with his back to the line of scrimmage. Has the ability to cover quickness underneath.
  • An instinctive center fielder who flies around the field, has the tools to make up for a relative lack of size
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
  • Only average size standing 5-11 and weighing in at 192 lbs. Looks more a corner
  • Has very limited measurables and is not an elite athlete. Runs a 4.62 forty, vertical of just 33 (19th percentile) and broad jump in the 21st percentile
  • Inconsistent getting off of blocks. Can be a step slow to react when a quarterback comes back to his side of the field late in progression.
  • Limited playing strength - get's pushed around by bigger receivers
  • Smith also needs to do a better job reading routes when sitting back as a single-high safety.
  • Very average timed speed - will need help covering deep
Scouting Report: Summary
Christopher Smith has proved to be a super productive player while playing on the best defense in the nation at Georgia. He's pretty much played like a lockdown corner when asked to cover as a part-time nickel back - and looked like a seasoned veteran when playing center field in the defensive backfield. However, while no one can question Smith's technique, experience, or football IQ - which are all outstanding, he has the measurables of a late-round selection and so could struggle to stand up at the next level and will be viewed as a high-floor limited upside prospect. Currently, we see Smith as a third/fourth-round selection in the 2023 NFL draft who will start early in his NFL career.

*Percentile Ranking in Player's Position Group (NFL Combine Historical Data): This percentile reflects how a player's specific statistics rank in comparison to historical performances at the NFL Combine, specifically within their position group. A higher percentile indicates a better performance. For instance, being in the 90th percentile for a particular stat means the player outperformed 90% of their peers in that category.

*Similarity Percentage: This percentage is calculated based on a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including height, weight, 40-yard dash times, on-field performance statistics, and overall player rating. The analysis is conducted against our database of draft prospects from 2021 to 2023. This similarity score helps in evaluating how closely a current prospect aligns with past prospects. It is important to note, however, that this score reflects similarities based on college production and attributes, and does not account for eventual success or performance in the NFL.
