Draft Profile: Bio
Collin Schlee from Oakdale High School was rated a 3-star recruit by ESPN and handed a 3-star grade by 247 Sports. After high school, Schlee opted to join Kent State.In 2020 as a freshman Schlee saw action in just 3 games for the Golden Flashes as he threw for just 113 yards on 13 attempts with a completion percent of 53.8 for an average of 8.7 yards per pass, with just 2 TDs, while taking one sack, and an excellent QB rating of 122.8. He added 11 runs for a total of 101 yards at an average of 9.2 per run.
In 2021 as a sophomore he played in 8 games as he passed for just 187 yards on 23 attempts with a completion percent of 69.6 for an average of 8.1 yards per pass, with just one TD, while also taking one sack, and putting up an excellent QB rating of 108.4. He made 20 runs for a total of 136 yards at an average of 6.8 per rush.
As a junior in 2022 Schlee played a total of 11 games. He passed for 2117 yards on 268 attempts and put up a completion percentage of 59.3 for an average of 7.9 yards per attempt, with 13 TDs, and allowing 18 sacks, with an excellent QB rating on the year of 92.8. As a runner he logged 82 runs for a total of 575 yards at an average of 7.0 per run.
After season's end Schlee transferred to UCLA where as a senior Schlee saw action in 6 games as he threw for just 139 yards on 31 attempts with a completion percent of 45.2 for an average of 4.5 yards per pass, with just one TD, while taking 3 sacks, and totaling a QB rating of 42.3. He added 33 runs for a total of 325 yards at an average of 9.8 per run.
Scouting Report: Strengths
- Sees the field very well when the play breaks down and occasionally changes plays at the line.
- He’s a pure athlete, loose-limbed and flexible. Schlee has the speed to pick up yardage in scramble situations.
- Ball placement is a strength. Schlee has the natural instincts to make plays when forced to improvise.
- He’s good enough as a runner to work read-option plays, keeping back-side defenders in place.
- He’s enough of a threat as a runner to make the read-option game effective.
- Flashes good accuracy to all levels of the field and has the arm strength to make every requisite NFL throw.
Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Schlee often fails to set his feet; his stride is extremely inconsistent, leading to constant accuracy problems.
- Has struggled with his decision-making and needs to improve his pre-snap recognition skills to read defenses and see blitzes. Doesn't decipher information as quickly as you would like, but does see the entire field and understands coverage.
- His arm strength is decent but less than ideal; Schlee lacks a little zip, and accuracy becomes an issue when he’s unable or unwilling to set his feet.
