Following high school, Jones opted to join Boise State.In 2018 as a freshman Jones saw action in 10 games and played a total of 442 snaps at safety for the Broncos. He recorded 28 tackles, 3 assists, while adding 11 stops. In coverage Jones notched up one pass breakup, no interceptions, and an unimpressive QB rating when targetted of 119.8.

Scouting Report: Weaknesses
- Isn’t great in route recognition when he’s facing the action, is hesitant and susceptible to double moves, and too often gets unnecessarily handsy when playing trail position
- Jones plays high and tends to struggle with change of direction, and Jones also shows some stiffness when he has to flip his hips.
- Susceptible to double moves, though that could be coached out of him. But the problem is that he doesn’t track the ball downfield
